Our History

Monster Moto was established back in 2004 by Elliot burgess. The idea behind the company was to build a Mini-bike with the same craftsmanship and race preparation as seen in the big bike scene. Elliot brought with him over 10 years riding experience, experience from teams in the British and world superbikes events. It is this racing pedigree that has been the focus behind everything Monster Moto does.

Elliot started racing in late September, 1993, on a Kawasaki KR1-s, to see if road racing was something he could take further!!

1994: Elliot proceeded to win all his novice races over the next 3 events! This racing success encouraged him to buy a Yamaha FZR 400RRsp race bike of his cousin Rick Lewendon and then started his first full season in the ‘New Era Superclub’ and ‘New Era Club Championships’. Elliot went on to win 72 races in a row. Not bad for his first season!

1995: Elliot started the year on a Honda GP rs250 bike, imported from Japan. Elliot decided to throw himself in to the deep end of the racing and do the National Shell Championship and select British Superbikes GP 250 races. Well you guessed it, he ended up winning the ACU 250 Shell championship and had a few top 10 finishes in the British Championships, another impressive year.

1996: In 1996 Elliot decided to spend another year at British championship 250 level and began with new sponsors on board, by now Elliot’s racing was being taken very seriously. With pressures from sponsors expecting results, he found himself chasing the dream without any factory support or any major financial backing. Elliot had a few good results, a few top 8’s, but never got any great brakes being a privateer. However Elliot had turned quite a few heads, enough to gain significant interest from a few good key sponsors.

1997: Elliot was contracted to a new Ducati Superbike team, S.M.A.R.T Foundation, to ride their ex-Fogerty World Superbike Ducati 955. With only a small budget they started the year with a bit of a bang at Donington, qualifying on his second time out. Later a high side caused a bad landing on his head, knocking him out cold, which meant he missed the first race of the year. The next round was Snetterton, Elliot had recovered from the previous accident and qualified 19th out of 28 riders and finished 16th. The team, in only a few meetings were running low on budget! So they had to sit out the next round until knock hill Scotland! This only motivated Elliot to do better and qualified 16th, but in the first race, in just 3 turns, the engine gave way and blew up! That was the season over for him.

1998: Elliot moved on and started riding for Slipstream Tuning, who are based in Kent. He was offered a Factory Yamaha MuZ ride at the World Superbikes for the German Manufacture MuZ. They had a 500 in GP and wanted to concentrate on the development so they handed the entire team to Martin atSlipstream.Martin contracted Elliot to the team, for the year, to ride this awesome 790cc single cylinder 250 styled race bike.

Elliot’s first race At WSB Donington was not a good start as he fell off at Crane, the fastest turn on the track. This was due to a technical fault with the fuel line, which broke his left leg. Elliot rejoined the championship halfway through the year when he had recovered enough to walk again. It was a turning point, Elliot was able to demonstrate his skills and went on to win every race left in that season and ended the season 2nd in the World SupermonoChampionship.

1999: Sigma Performance from Kent asked Elliot to ride for them in the British production 600 class. Elliot was riding his favorite type of engine, a twin, the gorgeous Ducati 748 SPs. Elliot had many podiums and finished 4th overall. You can imagine Elliot was really pleased with the results, especially  as the bike was nearly 20 kg heavier than the nearest 600!

2000: In this year Elliot joined forces with Martin and Slipstream Tuning again. They had a great offer with Yamaha to ride in the hardest class in the UK, the British Supersport. Each event had 60 to 99 riders, all trying to qualify, can you imagine? There had to be many who didn’t qualify!! Elliot finished consistently in the top 15, looking back it was a hard year, but it was such fantastic opportunity and he enjoyed every moment.

2001: Year 2 in the British Supersport, the team started getting better results, every so often getting into the top 10. Much better and deserved results. Five rounds in to the championship Elliot was in 6th place at Snetterton and had a big high side, breaking his knee and breaking the wrist clean off the arm. Elliot was left with a bad arm which pretty much wrapped up the season for him.

2002: Slipstream, LMB and First Quote insurance got together and paid for Elliot to ride the MuZ again, at the world Supermono round at Daytona. The bike festival was great, Elliot was fastest in practice and qualifying and went on to win both races. Elliot won by nearly 28 seconds in front of the 2nd place rider, who was the Daytona instructor on a factory Ducati. That kept a smile on Elliot’s face for some time. In fact we still can’t keep that storey in the closet! J

2005: In 2005 Elliot sadly officially quit. Since 2002 lack of funds to do the job properly crippled any opportunities. However Elliot did ride one more time at the KRC British Endurance round in Wales in 2005! Elliot was fastest in qualifying and along with his team mates, they won the 6 hour race. Elliot set the fastest time in the class, on an ex-Toseland Vimto Honda SP1.

“To be Honest I haven’t as yet finished racing. I put the same dedication, effort and race preparation into the development of our Monster Moto bikes and encourage my riders in the same way”.

I take the racing very seriously, as I truly believe if you think you are the best, you have to find a platform to prove it. I believe racing at this level of the sport does demonstrate exactly how good our support and bikes are. We have been winning since the start and we aim to continue in the same style.”
